Information for new members

Welcome to Thorndike Pond! We are so happy to have you as a neighbor on our special pond.
The Thorndike Pond Conservation Association takes an active role in monitoring various aspects of
life on the pond. As waterfront owners we depend on each other to keep the pond in good shape so we
can enjoy it for years to come. The Thorndike Pond Conservation Association takes an active role in
maintaining the quality of the pond by:
● Preventing invasive species from entering the pond through the NH Lakes Lake Host
program.
● Monitoring water quality and weed growth in cooperation with the NH Department of
Environmental Services.
● Maintaining the dam and associated water level in cooperation with the NH Department of
Safety.
● Monitoring the presence and location of navigational buoys in cooperation with NH Marine
Patrol.
● Facilitating communication between lakefront owners.
● Monitoring and reporting on animal life in and around the pond.
● Monitoring Whittemore Island in cooperation with The Monadnock Conservancy.
Some of the ways you can be involved:
● Pay your annual dues. While you are automatically a member of the association by virtue of
your pond frontage, 95% of owners pay annual dues as set by the membership; currently $100.
● Attend the annual meeting, held on the first Saturday in August.
● Train and volunteer as a Lake Host, greeting people using the public boat launch, to help keep
invasive weeds out of Thorndike Pond.

association is a member of the NH Lakes Association which plays an important role in advocating for
environmental and safety programs state-wide. The materials enclosed will help you learn of New
Hampshire rules and regulations for ponds such as ours.
