Minutes of Annual Meeting

August 7, 1999
The 40th Annual Meeting of the Thorndike Pond Conservation Association was called to order by President Jo Benedek at 11:05 a.m. 56 members were present. A list of members and the financial statement were distributed. Jo Benedek introduced Ted Ernst, an originator of the association, together with Herb Grant and Ray Kruse, other early founders, as well as Ken Russell's wife Stella. Jo also acknowledged the passing of John Kennedy, Scoutmaster of the Boy Scout camp. She welcomed Dennis and Sharon Monaghan as contributing members.
The membership approved the minutes of the 1998 annual meeting
Members approved the financial report as presented by Treasurer Ginnie Wile. The Treasurer's motion to continue the dues at $50 was passed unanimously.
Jo Benedek discussed the situation regarding Loons and lead poisoning as well as the need to control beaver activity on the pond. She reviewed the state regulations regarding boating on the pond and the new kiosk at the public boat ramp. Jo reported the condition of the dam to be sound, but in need of clean up of collected debris with help from the scout camp.
Bill Jackson presented the results of water testing that indicated the water quality to be good to very good.
Jo Benedek reported the Board recommendation that we continue the present water program of lowering the pond one board for two years and three boards the third year. Members approved the recommendation. Lowering will begin October 1.
Bill Jackson presented the nominating committee report: Jo Benedek for a one year term as President; Don Strickland a one year term as Vice-president; Ginnie Wile a one year term as Secretary/Treasurer; Don Austermann and Bernie Hampsey two year terms on the Board; Lisa Cooper and Evie Hammerman to continue their present terms for one more year.
Members approved actions of the Board of Directors during the 1998-1999 year.
Rob Ricker requested the Board investigate speed limits on Gilson Road.
The meeting adjourned at 12:25 for lunch at the Inn at Jaffrey Center.
